TV shows don't give a complete picture

Intervention has become much more of a buzz word due to the television exposure. On the plus side, more people are realizing that they can take control of the situation. On the minus side it doesn't always give an accurate account of what an intervention specialist and the family might go through.

The most common type of intervention is actually a family intervention, where one or more family members confront the addicted person and offer them help to go to treatment. There are also professional interventions, law enforcement interventions and self-inflicted interventions such as overdose or losing everything they own.
